The concerts in the “New music” series might seem unassuming, but let us not be deceived by the relatively small sizes of the ensembles, the performers’ young age, or names heretofore associated exclusively with the “Warsaw Autumn” festival. Their programmes are always products of meticulous consideration and infallibly appeal to audiences prioritising a new mode of listening.

Experimental music aficionados are bound to appreciate the appearance of music by Pauline Oliveros, probably the greatest electronic music composer of our time, the accordion having been an instrument particularly dear to her heart. „The Gentle” from her „The Well & The Gentle” dyad, arranged for two accordions, is a composition in which the artist promotes techniques of deep listening.

The programme of the evening also includes one of the most popular and most controversial compositions by Julius Eastman, a native of New York. Since the enthusiastically received Arditti Quartet version for three string quartets, Evil Nigger has been arranged for various ensembles.

Thus, Maciej Frąckiewicz and Rafał Łuc will turn two accordions into… four, further to be multiplied by Marta Śniady. The musicians will use Piotr Peszat’s idea, who emphasised the relevance of the piece itself and of Eastman’s – an African American and a gay man – fight for tolerance and dignity by introducing a fragment of archbishop Jędraszewski’s sermon on “the rainbow-coloured plague” in the pivotal moment of the composition.
