A true legend of Jazz in the world - Kenny Garrett will perform at the NOSPR with his project “Sounds From The Ancestors”. A celebration of music which you should not miss.

With his extraordinary artistic output, which includes collaborations with Miles Davis, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Donald Byrd, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw and the Duke Ellington Orchestra, as well as his solo career spanning more than 30 years, Kenny Garrett has achieved the status of the world's biggest jazz star and also the most influential living master of modern jazz. His five-year participation with Davis, during which he recorded four albums, had an indelible impact on Kenny's life and career. In turn, his latest album “Sounds From The Ancestors” is a reminder that five-time GRAMMY® Award winner Kenny Garrett is not about to rest on his laurels.

Kenny Garrett's latest album with the aforementioned title is a multi-faceted album. However, the music does not fit within the tight confines of the jazz idiom, which is not surprising given that the alto saxophonist and composer considers artists such as Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye as significant inspirations. Much like Miles Davis' landmark album “On the Corner” - Sounds From The Ancestors occupies its own space with intellectual clarity, sonic ingenuity and emotional weight.

“The new album is filled with the sounds I remembered as a kid growing up - sounds that lift the spirit from artists like John Coltrane, 'A Love Supreme'; Aretha Franklin, 'Amazing Grace'; Marvin Gaye, 'What's going on'; and the spiritual side of the church,” Garrett explains. “When I started thinking about them, I realized it was the spirit of my ancestors.” Indeed, Sounds From The Ancestors reflects the rich history of jazz, R&B and gospel music of his hometown of Detroit.

We invite you to the NOSPR for a unique concert by a jazz genius and legend, as it will be a true journey through time, which we recommend to you.
